FOREIGN LANGUAGES (SPANISH) VISION

“To create and foster curiosity about other languages and cultures and to deepen pupils’ understanding of the wider world.  Through the teaching of Spanish, pupils are given language learning skills which can be applied to any language later in life and which can be useful in the wider world of work. They are also introduced to many aspects of hispanic culture and history, to deepen their enjoyment of the subject.”

TALENT DISCOVERY OF PUPILS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

All pupils are supported and encouraged, regardless of ability.  At Langney Primary Academy we are also very keen to spot gifted language learners, particularly among disadvantaged pupils. We have a Swale Spanish Scholars Programme where those that are identified can deepen and extend their learning.

A BALANCE BETWEEN EXCELLENCE AND ENJOYMENT IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The Spanish curriculum at Langney provides a balance between development of accurate grammatical knowledge and widening vocabulary, and a breadth of cultural capital (for example topics based on Spanish art, food, music and explorers etc) in order to inspire curiosity.

Equipping pupils with transferrable language learning skills and  confidence, will prepare them for positive experiences in language learning at secondary school.  It will also encourage them to value the asset that speaking a foreign language can be, in the world of work.
